X-Arcade: Mitsubishi XL2-U Projector Testing

	Mitsubishi XL2-U Projector High Definition - 1080i Capable Tested Screen Size 90" x 56" Output:1500 Lumens. Awesome! Projector Provided by John @ Chariot Group, Inc.

Now this was a gas...I Kid you not. Imagine a 90" screen, pitched at 14 degrees forward from the top with plush seating @ 5 to 6 feet from the screen for optimum periphial viewing and a Mitsubihi XL2u Projector delivering a impressive, high definition picture. Add to that a prologic2 home theatre surround sound system and you have a fully emersable experience. I invited some colleagues (ahem) over to play...er...experiment with this environment and decided upon the projector featured above. We played Halo,(Online and Legendary Campaign) in teams and singles. Online single player on a 90" screen is very cool. All I needed was blood gushing from my head from the abuse my opponents gave me to complete the experience. The overall size and pitch of the screen, the surround sound and comfortable, theatre like setting, put the whole arcade concept into focus only to be sorely dissapointed when the Projector Demo was over. Mainly because....it was really too excellent. We also dabbled with Project Gotham Racing, Ghost Recon and watched several movies...until 5:00 AM the first night until 4:00 AM the second night But we all came away with the feeling that we are onto something great. We tested different viewing angles, distances to viewing surface and sound mixing and have come up with the optimum level of play. Below is the first draft of the Floorplans for X-Arcade drawn to scale.

The First Floorplans

Plan A: This floorplan takes approximatly 1500 Sq Ft . Seating capacity would be 16 to 20 people (4 to 5 ppl per room). Area person capacity licensing would allow 44 so there would be ample space for groups to watch as well. All rooms would be sound-proofed to eliminate noise from adjacent rooms during gameplay. In this plan, it calls for 4 Mitsubishi 65" TV's with a network hub located in the middle to accomodate network and online play. In this model there are also two Computer terminals to set gameplay on XbConnect. Maximum viewing distance here is 8 ft. and surround is installed. 1 secured xbox is available per room and the patron has the option of providing his or her own controller for a discount off of the regular hourly fee. Merchandise for sale will include Xboxs, Controllers, Accessories, Games, Hardware, Networking, and cableing. A small concession will also be available for soft drinks and snacks. Special school oriented discount programs will also be developed to promote local school activities and GPA levels.

Plan B: This floorplan is the revised and approved plan. All xboxes are in a secure rack behind the cashier with an intercom linking each room to the front desk. This will allow the players to switch games during their time, or reset if any problems occur during gameplay. This plan shows the XL2-U Projectors ceiling mounted and are projecting on 3 degree concave, theater optical screens pitched at 6 degrees top forward to provide optimum viewing angle from specially designed overstuffed furniture. Each screen is 92" Wide and 60 " in height. Minimum viewing distance is 4'6" and maximum vieing distance is 6'10". Each room is equipped with remote controller ports and/or Infared repeaters and Online play is all ADSL or T1 to Xbox Live.

The name has changed as well (and may likely again) as this is a work in progress.

X-Arcadia Our business plan supports a secure environment for online gaming with up to 16 other people in house or on Xbox Live. Our business format is ESRB adherant and promotes eligible students by allowing discounts for good grades in grades 8-12, (sorry college kids).
