XBConnect

XBConnect is a Windows based standalone Win32 application that allows you to play over the internet with your Xbox. Xbox Connector was created out of our interest in the Xbox and fun and is a free application. Xbox Connector has the capability to allow 4 simultaneous Xboxes to be 'networked' together so that up to 16 players can play at the same time. Xbox Connector allows any
'system link' game to be played over the internet.

Editors Note: Gamespy was my first experience with online gaming. When I got my membership there were an averageof only 130 - 180 players on at one time. Since November of 2001, Game Spy has grown at a phenominal rate and has in my opinion been bogged down by alot of players online consuming bandwith at hugh rates. Not ot knock Gamespy, they are a great organization with a great layout, GUI and Buddy system, It really enhances the whole Experience, great job....but the feeling is fading due the lag issues & connectivity problems. But this is where a lot of people are Fraggin their butts off and they should be proud of how they have advanced online gaming in general.

Update : Now Heres an Idea, XoBoX

Not Great to look at but the new one is 1/4 size and fits underneath your Xbox and totally remote Cut-outs on top keep Controllers handy.
Underneath the Mouse area and Drink Holders is where the keyboard is stored if we want to surf the net while we wait for our match

Beaverton, OR - 4-21-2K2 Was thinking about this the other day and decided to give it try. If you need help duplicating it I have the plans and will be happy to send them to you. I will put few pictures on the final XoBoX Case and Console as soon as I get the Logo Done.

Its called and XoBoX Patent Pending and has the very basic parts of a computer, but add a few enhancements and it becomes the perfect bridge between computer and Xbox. It fairly cheap to put together too, a large hard-drive is not needed, I used a 240 MB-HD ($45.00 Used), AMD K-6 450MhZ, ($22.00 -Used) (Socket 7 MB, ($5.00-Used) (64 MB Ram, $15.00) Intel 10/00MBPS NIC,($19.00 - Used) and your Basic ATI Rage PCI VGA Card ($39.00-Kmart.. best Deal) or any Video card that can support at least 256 colors. No monitor, but a VGA to NTSC converter instead. Thats what makes it a real bonus. Simple concept too. It also has Dual Surround Headphone Jacks in the front, amped for seperate volume controls, and I will be adding the Infared Keyboard and air mouse. The Least amount of cords the better. Hooking it up is simple, Basically an In-line if you add a small 4 port hub. It really works great..try it. There was a little cleanup needed in the VGA to NTSC Output, and a little Refresh rate tweaaking but it came out pretty good. I am putting together a parts list and plans for the XoBoX and will soon have available, a complete parts list kit that you can get and start building yours today. The case dimension shown are 20 X 18 and a 10 X 20 Top.

Plans are in the work for a much smaller version and operates like a remote, with an infared keyboard and wireless hub. It will come bundled witht the latest Tunnel Software and operating system. and be about the size of a notebook.

This makes the task of getting a match ready and then playing it ...and lag free with XbConector....pretty easy. Its real convienant too, because I can Surf the Web to with this setup, Although its really not Net Quality Video, It can be handy when there seems to be a long time between matches.

Now you ask, Why?...heh...good Question..with the Official Xbox Online site due later this year....seem like an awful lot of trouble to go through for just a game....well George Baily said it Best...you do know who I'm talking about, don't you?...."This Town Needs this measly One Horse institution. if the only reason is to have another place to come, other than crawling to Potter."

The people who are developing the XbConnect Program and the whole team gathering around it and supporting it are quality, top of the class people but definitly without the deep pockets of Microsoft or Gamespy, but nevertheless.. creating a top notch program. But there are no lines drawn here anymore in the sand. This is a quality program and is destined to provide a real alternative to pay sites. XbConnect is the best choice of tunnels not only for this application but its just the best damn tunnel going now.

There is no doubt that the pay sites will be awesome. after all thats what we all have been waiting for. havent we. Well I beleive this is the next best, or..next first, for XbN.

The XbConnect team is fully self supporting, but can always use funds and the support they need to keep the Iron horse rolling. ( Those are really hard to stop anyway...if you get my drift ). So if you see a chance to help and you enjoy the programming help support these great efforts. Help support the sites too by visiting their sponsors and advertizers every once in a while.

Thought I would add a few pics of the behind the scenes operations here and XbN Central.

This is the Online node or H2R War-room system. This is where we test out new games and play Halo Online. There is Seating for three and if we have visitors or other clan members around, theres plenty of seating behind the main players. The TV is a Mitsubihi, High Definiton 36" tube, Kinda old but good enough for what we need to do. Surround can also be conected on the front panel of the XoBoX for dual headphones. Great for Late Night play or Matches when everyone else in the house is asleep.
This is the Main Communications/Email node for the Family. This node also serves as the main download computer with two 3.2 GB Drives. Notice the Coffee and Espresso Machines in the Background. Gotta have the Java Handy...looks like I need to make another pot. :)
This is the main Graphics node. Here is where XBoxNow was Born and is where all of the Clan Banners, Emblems and XboxNow Graphics are made. It also serves as the VPN for testing scripts and Graphics for functionality and is also the Main file server for XbN.
This is the main office or XbN Central. The Laptop behind my chair is used for drafting and arts draft layout . Clan Membership records and stats are also compiled here for publication. The main computer houses XboxNow and is the main communication point for XboNow Admin and League Site Admin and also serves as the main resource for all Events and Leagues
